Hello, I'm Kate. I came to Portland from the East Coast, but was raised in the Midwest long enough to adopt "ope" for life. As an empath, my passion is work that is emotionally intelligent, connecting big ideas with big feelings. From unboxing a new fragrance to that commercial that really had you wanting to call your mom — stories, experiences, sensations are all around us, and I want to be a part of that.  As I grow as a designer, I am realizing my responsibility to make work that works for tomorrow. I believe that collaboration and designing for tomorrow is what makes this field special. Our world is an amazing place, but it needs a lot of work. There is still so much to be done, especially in terms of uplifting the marginalized and disenfranchised and in terms of sustainability, both environmental and social.  My interests are all over the map. From simple brand identity to brand initiative campaigns, from experiential design to video production, from web design to video game art — I am just truly excited by creating interesting work. Utilizing a variety of visual languages in communicating an idea is hugely inspiring to me. Wherever I go, I hope to continue building upon those visual languages.  When I’m not glued to my screen (said with love), I can usually be found on a mountain, working for a view and dreaming of my next snack. My pride and joy is a cat named Bird.
